Ericeira ~ The City of Surf
With over 850 kilometres of Atlantic coastline and year-round waves, Portugal has become a top destination for surfers. Since the 1970s, surfing has flourished along the coast, attracting wave riders from around the world. In 2011, Ericeira—a once-sleepy fishing village—gained global recognition as the world’s first official World Surfing Reserve, protecting its legendary waves and natural surroundings for future generations.
Over the past five years, Ericeira has evolved into a vibrant surf town. Traditional shops have transformed into modern surf boutiques, and striking surf imagery now adorns the streets. Surfing is no longer just a sport here—it’s part of the local identity.
This photography book captures the essence of Ericeira’s surf culture. Through multiple visits, I documented the town’s transformation and the deep connection between its people, waves, and lifestyle.
