ABOUT

Demi Thönissen is a dutch photographer who tells her stories by travelling the world. After graduating The Dutch Academy of Applied Photography in Rotterdam in 2021, she kept on creating her own projects.

"My grandmother was born and raised in Indonesia and moved to The Netherlands in 1950. Thanks to the different stories about what life was like for my grandmother living in Indonesia, I developed a strong interest in different cultures. Through the years, I found out that every culture has its own right to exist in its surroundings. You can see their marks everywhere. That is why I travelled to several countries and photographed the natural and city landscapes with the presence of the cultures in these surroundings."

 

She already had her own book launch in 2021 of project 'Ericeira ~ The City of Surf'. Her work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions, a solo exhibition and at the book launch of GupNew magazine 2022 as she became one of the new talents of that year.
